Hello Everyone,

If you have never done the run before you are probably wondering what happens.

Hardened Land Rover enthusiasts or those coming from a distance, usually camp Saturday night at Crystal Palace. We are allowed into the site at 4:00pm when the club marshals will start putting up signs, barriers, sorting out the toilets and all the usual organisational stuff that needs to be done.

I can't say which gate we will be using as we usually don't find out until that evening so keep your eyes open, a Land Rover will be parked by the correct one and marshals will be there to welcome you and guide you in. Please keep your speed down to 5mph and follow the marshal's instructions.

If you are pitching a tent then make sure you bring a large mallet as we camp directly on top of the foundations of the old palace.

The local area is full of pubs and restaurants of varying quality but if you want to cook your own food, please remember that the park authorities will not permit an open fire.

There is a great party atmosphere in the park overnight and someone even brought some fireworks last year. The club insists that everyone has a jolly good time and enjoys themselves thoroughly.

We will have someone selling bacon sandwiches tea and coffee to get people going on Sunday morning.

People will start to arrive very early in the morning and marshals will begin to organize entrants into their run order by parking everyone up on the gravel drive that runs through the site.

You will need to show your pass to get into the park. As soon as you are parked please take your pass to the club tent to receive a run-pack, plaque and 't' shirt. Don't forget to fix the plaque to your vehicle, it needs to be visible to get into Brighton.

At about 8:30 there will be a driver's briefing with the Crystal Palace chief marshal. He will explain how to leave the site safely. The run normally begins at 9:00 as people are released in small groups into the unsuspecting streets of south London.

Everyone will get a route to follow in their run-pack and remember that just because you are following a Land Rover does not mean that they are on the run! We have had incidents in previous years where half a dozen Land Rovers have tried to pull into some poor soul's drive who had only gone out for a pint of milk.

When you arrive at Brighton, please follow the instructions of the marshals, who will try to park everyone as quickly as possible and keep speeds down to 5mph.

Get out of your Land Rover, make new friends, find a Land Rover club you might like to join, buy useful and competitively priced items from the trade stands or simply enjoy some sea-side fish and chips.

See you there!

Bill Campbell
